Handicraft
Food – Homemade jellies of milk, coconut and tropical fruits. They can be found in all regions in the State. Clay Pottery – They are made of massapé (black-colored), tauá (yellow-colored), and caulim (white-colored). Some ornamental pieces show drawings and paintings. São Gonçalo do Amarante is the greatest producer of this kind of handicraft, but you can also find it in Ceará-Mirim, Florânia, and São Tomé.Baskets and Braid Pieces – They are made of straws and are found in almost all boroughs in the State.Leather Pieces – They are extracted from goats or oxen. They are mainly produced in Natal, Caicó and Taipu.Wood Pieces – In Taipú and Macaíba you can find wood sculptures in general, many of them representing catholic saints.Stones – The pieces made of stone are lapidated or sculpted. The greatest producer of stone handicraft is Currais Novos.Laceworks and Embroideries – Caicó is the traditional producer of this kind of handicraft.Weaving – The most representative product is the hammock. Acari, Jardim do Seridó, Florânia, Arez, Ipanguaçu, São Paulo do Potengi, and São Tomé use weavers’ looms in order to produce handicraft pieces.
